The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to significantly enhance trade, technical, and economic cooperation between the Hong Kong SAR and Malaysia.
The MoU was signed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, during a high-level Hong Kong business delegation led by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Algernon Yau. The delegation took place in conjunction with the “Think Business, Think Hong Kong” Symposium, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and the “Hong Kong: Your Strategic Springboard to Chinese Mainland and Malaysia” Business Seminar, organized by Invest Hong Kong.
Under the newly signed MoU, HKGCC and NCCIM will leverage their expansive networks to drive cross-border business and sustainable economic growth. To achieve this, the chambers commit to exchanging market intelligence, promoting mutual investment landscapes, organizing joint commercial programs, and conducting reciprocal visits to strengthen institutional ties and unlock new opportunities for their members.
Patrick Yeung, CEO of HKGCC, highlighted the strategic importance of this new alliance. “Malaysia is a vital economic partner for Hong Kong and a cornerstone of the dynamic ASEAN market. The signing of this MoU in Kuala Lumpur marks a significant milestone in our bilateral relationship,” said Yeung. “By formalising our deep-rooted cooperation with NCCIM alongside the ‘Think Business, Think Hong Kong’ initiative, we are actively unlocking new avenues for our members to explore cross-border investment, share critical market intelligence, and build lasting business relationships. As Hong Kong continues to serve as an international bridge, this partnership will ensure our business communities thrive together in the years ahead.”
The MoU represents a shared vision between Hong Kong’s most established and largest business organisation and Malaysia’s apex private sector body, establishing a powerful platform to help both chambers achieve their common but independent goals in the global marketplace.
