Ref: 010/2002 - One Company One Job Campaign
2002年7月29日
As many of you may have seen in the news over the weekend, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce has initiated, with several other chambers in Hong Kong, a campaign to have each member company voluntarily provide at least one 12-month trainee position to a new college graduate or higher diploma recipient. This initiative is called “One Company One Job”. It was approved by the General Committee of the HKGCC, and is designed to provide some training opportunity to those who are unfortunate enough to finish their tertiary education at this very difficult economic time. We fully realize that all companies are having difficulties, with small and medium sized enterprises particularly feeling the pain. But it was felt that it was worth it to try to provide training opportunities to our future in whom we all have invested. Employment prospects are very bleak for these tertiary graduates this year, and a 12-month training can also provide them skills to look for a job next year, when the economy hopefully will be better. The minimum pay would be for HK$6,000 per month, and the priority is on the new college graduate or higher diploma recipient. Ultimately, what will stop the very serious unemployment rate in Hong Kong from going up further is economic recovery and prosperity in all your businesses. This campaign will not help that, and free market forces will continue to rule in Hong Kong. Some companies will be unable to participate, but we are hoping that as many companies as possible can volunteer to enter this campaign, with larger companies perhaps even providing more than one such position. This is just an alert letter, and details will be coming in the next two weeks along with a form for you to sign up. I hope that, if you are able, you will want to join in this campaign. The HKGCC and these youths will thank you for your help.
