Project CLEAN AIR<br>Joint business effort on improving air quality in Hong Kong/Pearl River Delta
2005年7月25日
Dear Member I write to invite you to support a business sector-wide effort to improve air quality in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta, by joining the Project CLEAN AIR championed by the Chamber and launched under the Business Coalition on the Environment (BCE). We all share the community’s concern over our worsening air quality. Apart from the effect of air pollution on health, we are also concerned that poor air quality is affecting our reputation as an international business and tourism centre, and is becoming a threat to our competitiveness. As you are well aware, our air quality problem is cross-boundary in nature. To tackle the problem effectively will require a combined effort of both Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. It is our firm belief that the business community has a major role to play and can truly bring about meaningful results, if we put our effort together. The BCE – a coalition of 29 business associations coordinated by the Chamber – have joined force to launch the Project CLEAN AIR, a business-wide campaign to improve air quality in the Greater PRD. The focus of the Project is the Clean Air Charter, which the Chamber Chairman Mr David Eldon has already signed up to. We invite you to support the Project by signing the Charter and we also welcome your participation in a series of action-oriented programmes to be organized in due course. I attach the following for your attention: - The BCE Clean Air Charter – we encourage you to sign the Charter and return the signed copy to the Chamber. - Supplementary Notes on the Charter, to help you prepare your own implementation plan for the Charter. - Information note on the Project CLEAN AIR activities being planned. You are welcome to participate in these programmes. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely Dr Eden Woon CEO
