The Chamber leadership team and I have just returned to Hong Kong following a highly productive visit to Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Fulfilling our role as a premier “super connector” and “super value-adder”, this September mission was designed with a clear purpose: to bridge Hong Kong enterprises directly with high-growth markets and unlock new avenues for expansion. Leveraging our global chamber network and strategic MoU partnerships, we are committed to streamlining market entry for our members.

Our journey began in Singapore, where Chamber Vice Chairman Nikki Ng led the delegation in engaging meetings with key ministries, government agencies, and industry leaders, as well as our Chamber partners, the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (SICC). Together, we explored the latest advancements in digital, green, and financial infrastructure — areas where Hong Kong and Singapore share mutual ambitions. To translate these shared goals into actionable strategies, we co-hosted a joint networking reception with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore, connecting with over 70 prominent business leaders.

Building on these discussions of regional synergy, the delegation then travelled to Malaysia under the leadership of Vice Chairman Pang Chun Yu. Here, our focus shifted toward cross-border growth and intra-regional connectivity, particularly within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). Much like the powerful economic engine created by the Shenzhen-Hong Kong relationship, the Johor Bahru-Singapore corridor provides a strategic hinterland for manufacturing, talent acquisition, and regional expansion. We partnered with the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre Johor to host a targeted programme studying the JS-SEZ framework and the Maju Johor 2030 development plan.

While in Johor Bahru, we reconnected with our counterparts from the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MICCI). To formally solidify this relationship, Vice Chairman Yu and MICCI Southern Region Chairman Lee Ting Kiat signed a Memorandum of Understanding, witnessed by representatives from HKETO Kuala Lumpur and MICCI. This agreement marks a crucial step in deepening our bilateral commercial ties.

Our mission continued in Indonesia, where the delegation met senior government officials, business organisations, corporate leaders and our counterpart chamber, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), to explore opportunities in investment, green finance, and sustainable infrastructure, among others. The mission strengthened key relationships and identified practical avenues for deeper Hong Kong–Indonesia collaboration.

Our recent engagement across Southeast Asia is just one chapter in our broader strategy to expand Hong Kong’s global footprint. Looking ahead, our commitment remains resolute, with future delegations already being planned for Central Asia and the Middle East. By continuously opening doors, formalising alliances, and facilitating on-the-ground dialogues, the Chamber ensures that our business community remains exceptionally well-positioned to capture the next wave of global economic growth.
