Strengthening Hong Kong-Malaysia Business Ties

The HKGCC is pleased to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM), paving the way for closer cooperation and collaboration.

The agreement was signed in Kuala Lumpur during a Hong Kong business delegation led by Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau. HKGCC General Committee Member Elton Chan signed the MoU with Mohd Dzahir Jamudin, Vice President of NCCIM.

Under the agreement, the two chambers will work together to deepen trade, technical, and economic cooperation by drawing on their respective business networks. This will include exchanging market intelligence and investment information, organising joint commercial programmes and facilitating reciprocal visits, helping businesses in Hong Kong and Malaysia identify new partners and opportunities.

As the apex body representing Malaysia’s private sector, NCCIM brings together major business associations across the country and serves as an important platform for promoting trade, investment and international economic cooperation. Hong Kong and Malaysia’s business ties go back for decades. A new Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office was also established in Kuala Lumpur last year, further solidifying Hong Kong’s links with its eighth-largest trading partner. Patrick Yeung, CEO of HKGCC, said the partnership marked an important step in further developing the longstanding economic relationship between the two sides.

“Malaysia is a vital economic partner for Hong Kong and a cornerstone of the dynamic ASEAN market. The signing of this MoU in Kuala Lumpur marks a significant milestone in our bilateral relationship,” he said.

“By formalising our deep-rooted cooperation with NCCIM alongside the ‘Think Business, Think Hong Kong’ initiative, we are actively unlocking new avenues for our members to explore cross-border investment, share critical market intelligence, and build lasting business relationships.”

The visit highlighted Hong Kong’s continuing efforts to expand its economic engagement across Southeast Asia, including in areas such as finance, innovation and technology, professional services and cross-border investment.

“As Hong Kong continues to serve as an international bridge, this partnership will ensure our business communities thrive together in the years ahead,” Yeung said.

With the MoU providing a formal framework for ongoing exchanges, HKGCC and NCCIM will now focus on translating closer institutional ties into practical opportunities for their members and strengthening business links between Hong Kong and Malaysia.
