Tsunami Disaster Relief Donations
29 December 2004
CIRCULAR TO ALL MEMBERS December 29, 2004 Dear Member All of us are extremely sad to hear about the recent tsunami catastrophe which took away tens of thousands of lives, made millions homeless, and caused tremendous damage to several countries. We know that we all want to do something to help the unfortunate. Indeed, many Chamber members have already joined in to donate to disaster relief efforts. We would like to inform you that, on behalf of our members, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce is planning to donate HK$1,000,000 from its reserves to assist the victims and the repair of damages. Your Chamber had also immediately sent condolences to the governments of several of the countries affected, and our own staff are volunteering to donate also. Separately, we encourage members, if you have not done so yet, to donate directly to any charity helping with disaster relief or to the various organizations listed below. Direct contribution by you would be more expedient to provide immediate assistance to the needy. At this sad time, every bit helps. Three of the agencies, among many, which receive donations are listed below (For a detailed list of agencies who are helping with relief, please kindly refer to page A2 in South China Morning Post on December 29, 2004): Red Cross (Tel: 2802-0021) HSBC bank account: 500-334149-010 Hang Seng bank account: 267-175123-009 Bank of China bank account: 806-0-003403-3 Bank of East Asia bank account: 514-40-66899-02 Oxfam (Tel: 2520-2525) HSBC bank account: 047-834668-001 Bank of China bank account: 012-874-0010515-7 Medecins Sans Frontieres Hong Kong (Tel: 2338-8277) HSBC bank account: 002-2-398226 For more information, please contact Ms Kennis Kwan, Assistant Manager, Media & Public Relations, HKGCC at 2823 1262.
