Invitation to the Co-operation Programme on Workplace English between HKGCC & AEMSS 2003

6 June 2003

For the third year in a row, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce joined forces with the Association of English Medium Secondary Schools ﹝香港英文中學聯合會﹞, which at present represents 112 secondary schools in the public sector, to organise the captioned Programme. Many companies have already joined the Programme in the past two years to share their experiences and introduce their businesses to students. These companies include Citibank, CSX World Terminals, Fuji Xerox, Gammon, Gold Peak, Hong Kong and China Gas, Hong Kong Land, Jardine Matheson, Marco Polo Hotel Group, New Zealand Trade Development Board, Shell, Sony Corporation, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, …and many more. We were very pleased to receive many positive and encouraging feedback from the participating schools, member companies and in particular students who found the experience very rewarding. The Programme this year will take on a two pronged approach including (I) student internship in volunteering member companies for a period of three weeks (between July and August 2003), in which students can experience practical use of workplace English and a wide range of soft skills. While (II) school / office visitations will involve a visit/talk by senior business executive(s) of member companies to a school to speak about his/her company and the importance of English in the workplace. It could also be a visitation by a group of students together with their teachers to a company for the same purpose. All visitations will take place in between October 2003 and March 2004. These series of activities will provide opportunities for the business community to have a better idea of the workings of the Hong Kong education system as well as the attitudes and expectations of the students, teachers and school administrators or even parents. We strongly encourage senior executives from your company to participate and to contribute support in Hong Kong’s education. The Chamber and AEMSS have high hopes for this Programme. Let us work together for the benefit of the students and let them be aware of the business community in Hong Kong. Please send in the participating form (click here to download) before 27 June 2003, to our Ms Karen Fung, via fax 2527 0939 or email at [email protected] or call at 2823 1240 for enquiries. If you would like to review our past programmes, please click in our “HR Corner” (www.chamber.org.hk/vacancies). Don’t miss this opportunity to contribute your efforts in improving education in Hong Kong. Your support is highly appreciated. Sincerely Eden Woon CEO
