15 October 2008
Dr WK Chan Page A book of condolence for Dr WK Chan, who passed away last week, is to be opened at HKGCC. The book will be available for people to sign from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Chamber from October 15-29. The Chamber's Chairman Andrew Brandler, CEO Alex Fong, and entire Chamber staff are supporting the move. "This is a way in which we can convey our sympathies to WK's wife, family and friends," said Mr Brandler. "WK had many friends from all walks of life, and we hope this book of condolences will help everyone who knew him to say farewell to their friend." The Chamber will also set up a special WK Chan's Children Education Fund (CEF) for his daughters to facilitate their formal studies, which will be administered by Chamber. "Anyone is welcome to make a contribution to this fund if they wish to do so," said Mr Fong. "Other than this fund, if people want to give condolence money to the family, we will also facilitate them." A special webpage (http://www.chamber.org.hk/wk) will be set up on the Chamber's Website where people can learn about WK's work, leave a message, and add to the compilation of a comprehensive biography about this model citizen. WK, 50, suffered a stroke while on holiday in Spain, on September 30. He passed away eight days later on Wednesday, October 8, in Barcelona with his wife Cecilia and two daughters Hannah, 14, and Karina, 12, by his side.
