HKGCC Business Delegation Advances Trade and Investment Ties Across Southeast Asia

From 20 - 26 September, the HKGCC embarked on a high-level business delegation to Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia as part of our ongoing engagement with ASEAN.

In Singapore, the delegation was led by Vice Chairman Nikki Ng. The team held productive meetings with key ministries, government agencies, and industry leaders to explore updates in digital, green, and financial infrastructure. The Chamber also connected with over 70 business leaders at a joint networking reception co-hosted with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Singapore to discuss complementary market strategies across both hubs.

The journey continued into Malaysia under the leadership of Vice Chairman Pang Chun Yu, where delegates focused on cross-border growth and intra-regional connectivity through the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. Much like the economic dynamic between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, the relationship between Johor Bahru and Singapore provides a strategic hinterland for manufacturing, talent, and regional expansion. In partnership with the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre Johor, HKGCC hosted a targeted programme to study the JS-SEZ and the Maju Johor 2030 development plan.

We reconnected with our counterparts from the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MICCI), following our visit to Kuala Lumpur last year. Both chambers signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen bilateral ties. Signed by PC Yu and MICCI Southern Region Chairman Lee Ting Kiat, and witnessed by representatives from HKETO Kuala Lumpur and MICCI, the agreement marks a key step in expanding international partnerships.

The final leg of the mission brought the delegation to Indonesia, focusing on strategic dialogues with senior government officials, prominent corporate leaders, and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). These targeted meetings uncovered highly practical avenues for Hong Kong-Indonesia collaboration, specifically within the realms of green finance, direct investment, and sustainable infrastructure development.

Ultimately, this ASEAN mission serves as a launchpad for the Chamber’s broader “Go Global” initiative. With plans already in motion for upcoming missions to Central Asia and the Middle East, the Chamber is committed to opening doors, formalising global alliances, and driving on-the-ground dialogues with our global chamber network and beyond.
