Diving into Philip Chen’s “Crisis Management Playbook”

On 11 September, the Chamber had the pleasure of welcoming Philip Chen, Independent Non-Executive Director of Hang Lung Properties, for an insightful evening titled “The Crisis Management Playbook,” marking the launch of his new book,《臨危不亂》.

Drawing on over three decades of leadership experience at some of Hong Kong’s most prominent organisations — including serving as Chief Executive of Cathay Pacific Airways and Hang Lung Group, and Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club and Ocean Park — Chen shared practical insights on navigating crises with resilience and composure. He explored how businesses can effectively handle reputational challenges, operational disruptions, and high-pressure situations while maintaining stakeholder trust and long-term value.

Through real-world case studies and personal reflections, Chen illustrated the leadership principles that guide organisations through periods of uncertainty and change. As he aptly noted, “you become stronger after every challenge”, encouraging attendees to view setbacks not as obstacles, but as opportunities to learn, adapt, and emerge stronger from adversity.

The thought-provoking sharing was followed by a lively Q&A session, where executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals exchanged views on leadership in today’s rapidly changing environment. The evening concluded with a networking and book-signing session, offering attendees the opportunity to engage directly with Chen. This exclusive event highlighted the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and lifelong learning by bringing top business leaders together to share invaluable experiences and actionable strategies.
